One day I'm going to walk up to my congressional representative and ask him

What the FUCK do you think you're doing?

The government spends more money than it takes in. To get away with this, it has to borrow. It borrows from rich people. Then it pays interest to rich people. If you're rich and want to tax the general population, invest in the U.S. Assuming it doesn't go out of business, you'll recieve taxes (interest) for years.

The Republicans recently (near May '95) passed a tax cut. What the fuck were they thinking? When your revenues are insufficient you do not cut taxes, you cut programs.

Fundamentally:

the people are demanding more services than they can afford.

I think the ``credit card culture'' is a major problem with this country. When you want to live beyond your means, charge it. Sure you'll be paying outrageous interest over the next few years, resulting in a lower standard of living over the long run, but this is instant gratification! This just goes to illustrate one of my favorite points: people are stupid.

There are legitimate uses for borrowing. If you are confident you can turn somebody's money into a lot more money, borrow. There is someone out there who will be happy to take a risk in return for a share of your (hopefully large) profits.

However, the government isn't using this borrowed money to make more money (that's not government's business. Government's business is to make more government). It is using the money to prop up entitlements.

We are borrowing from our childrens' incomes to ``help'' poverty-stricken people today (and help a few not-so-poverty-stricken people). The people who recieve the entitlements begin to think they deserve this money. They become dependent upon it, and incentives for becoming less dependent are inadequate.

I am against many entitlements.
Most of these people don't deserve my money. What the fuck ever happened to responsibility?
I am against tax increases.
My dad says we should be glad we're not getting all the government we pay for. I'm not going to give the government more money to give to
I am against tax cuts.
We have to pay off the debt somehow.
If you can't afford it, do without. One day your kids will disown you and pay for the debt by cutting medicare (perhaps sooner than you think).
