Being a deity
A player becomes a deity when they gain the power to manipulate the
supernatural resources: glory, faith, and mana.
glory
Glory comes from worshipers defeating enemies.
They sacrifice a fraction
of their experience points from each kill to increase their god's glory pool.
faith
Faith comes from NPCs. A player with the preach skill can turn NPCs
into followers, but is not terribly efficient at it.
Having a temple in a city gives you the chance to
turn large numbers of the inhabitants of the city into your worshipers.
Bigger cities have more potential worshipers.
Competing gods will cut into your action.
mana
A beginning god will have a small supply of mana drawn from his own endurance.
If he is aggressive, he may gain control of a ley line, which provides a
much larger supply of mana until the ley line is exhausted.
infrastructure
Gods will use these resources to buy supernatural infrastructure
necessary to
- consecrate temples
- summon guardian angels (for shrines and cities)
- power holy symbols wielded by players
- harness ley lines
resource conversion
It is possible to build supernatural machines to turn glory, faith, or mana
into any of the other resource types. This makes it possible for a god with
no worshipers, only mana, to build any piece of infrastructure. It will
merely be very expensive, as the conversion is not efficient.
