My side of the story -
by DarthBobo

When I was using my 24 free hours of gameplay on A Tale In The Desert I built a camp in CCR south of the School Of Art at -692,7700. There were a couple of distaffs, chests, a flax comb, a true kiln, a loom, a flax hammock, and a charcoal oven.

Eventually I decided to pay for the game and join a guild. I assembled a "colonization kit", made the buildings public (thinking that was the philanthropic thing to do), and started hiking south.

I encountered a friendly fellow who had a large camp, and, lacking anything better to do with my time, I helped him with a couple of his buildings. In return he got me some nails for a tent. He also got me into guild Theopolis.

A couple of days later I was contacted by TCLogik. It turns out my buildings back in CCR were inside territory claimed by a guild (I assume Disciples). They wanted me to hike back and demolish them. I didn't feel like dedicating an hour or two to clicking my butt all the way back there, so I told him he was out of luck, and that he should just take advantage of the buildings.

Disciples decided to take the issue to the elders in Theopolis. A Theo' guild elder talked to me and told me that the aggrieved guild had threatened war so I summoned a GM (got Bellah) and asked her to help me out by either demolishing the buildings, or teleporting me over there to demolish them myself. She told me that once a building had been donated to the public it could not be demolished, even by the creator. I gave up on that idea. She also told me that the GMs did not recognize any concept of "land ownership", so Disciples had no cause for grievance in the eyes of the GMs.

Mekhu asked me to write an apology egyptmail. I composed one mentioning my conversations with the GM. I even got a response from TCLogik thanking me for trying to resolve the issue.

Maybe a day later one of the Theopolis elders chatted me to let me know that public buildings could be salvaged by the creator. They had performed an experiment. I summoned another GM and asked for a teleportation, but evidently that was against their policies. Again I buried the issue.

Fri - May 30

I logged in and was informed that I had been kicked out of Theopolis in order to avoid a guild war. This makes me the first active player to be kicked out of Theo'. Some of the other Theopolis members heard of this and wanted to know why, so I created this web page.

My best guess is that either some of Disciples didn't hear about my apology, or didn't accept it, and were still giving the Theo' elders a hard time.

In a final ironic jab, I read my System window to discover that the Remote Salvage Law V3 had passed. Once implemented it would have put the entire controversy to rest.

Now I have a tent at Theopolis with 1300 firebricks in it that I need to trade away so I can salvage it and get out of their way. If you have some vegetable seeds or steel blades, /chat me and you can bid on the lot of it.

me totally innocent, really, what did I do wrong? You can't pin that on me! You'll never take me alive, copper!

Fri - Jun 20 I finally hiked back to my original camp and deconstructed it. I also took a screenshot (125K) of the camp before I deconstructed it. My buildings included

From the screenshot you can see that there was nothing in the vicinity, and no special contention for resources.

My buildings are mostly gone now. The only thing that might be left is the large chest which I gave to a local (there were more resources at the camp than I could carry with me, and I didn't want them to go to waste). It will be much easier for him to dismantle the chest than me.
